Red Scorpion

The small creature isn't the only thing to make you stand as if paralyzed, the concept of the Red Scorpion does as well.

Passers by stand in rows to stare in wonder at our latest customer project bike. Proven Zero Cool components modified by us & combined to make the Scorpion what it is. A newly designed Zero Cool frame formed the basis to get this project off the ground. What remained was the extremely low seating position & of course, the newly computed frame geometry.

New, curved front frame tubes are used which merge at the bottom to form the sharp sting that forms the bike's theme. The frame and all other metalwork is made in house to ensure they perfectly match the smooth lines. The fuel tank with integrated speedo, oil tank, front & rear fenders are a result of my designer's pencil. The rear fender with it's integrated LED rear light, sitting between the scorpion's 3D pincers is definitely another highlight of this bike & reflects the concept of the whole design. The bike, designed to allow 2 up riding, has been fitted with a special pillion peg system designed by us which can be removed with ease. So when riding solo the harmonious lines are retained. In nature the red scorpion is regarded as a somewhat harmless species, but our Red Scorpion is made from a different mould. A Twin Cam powerplant with a Big Bore Kit provides the propulsion for this low flyer.

The highly polished powerplant is fed by a Mikuni HSR 42 carburettor with a Lottermann Elegance airfilter, it's deep roar is thanks to the Zero Cool exhaust system with almost 100 dbA. The power is laid down via a TC primary which has a 55mm offset kit fitted. Because of the high torque output of the mighty engine we decided that 5 speeds was ample, so we chose the tried & tested Harley Davidson gearbox. It was clear that this project should be the combination of a show bike but with absolute rideability, so 4" over Freestyle forks with 5" rake to suit the frame geometry & provide the necessary castor angle were carefully selected. When selecting the wheels we developed Zero One forged wheels, so wide you might doubt whether they could be of practical use on the road.

A 10.5" wide wheel with a fat 300 rear tire isn't exactly something that would be of much use on the racetrack. But for cruising & everyday riding, in combination with a well thought out frame geometry, it functions perfectly. With a bit of body movement on the bike you can also enjoy twistier routes.

A Zero One 4 x 18 wheel with matching brake disc continues the design of the rear wheel. At the rear the rider brakes using a Zero Cool brake system, where the brake disc sits behind the drive pulley, freeing up the right side view of the rear wheel.

The flowing curves made the selection of the other components crucial as the wrong footpegs or grips would spoil the whole look of the bike. Again here we took no chances. OMP 3D hand controls with hydraulic clutch, matching OMP footpegs and Zero Cool grips blend in perfectly in unison with the bike.

The swing arm with it's integrated indicators, fully hidden wiring & the sprung core seat with scorpion stitching demonstrate the well thought out details of this design.

Again we left nothing to chance with the paint design, so we gave "Red" to Danny our airbrusher, which is exactly what our customer wanted. Various red & candy tones were applied to the black base coat. Naturally scorpions of varying sizes were airbrushed in to keep with the theme of the bike.

It's not enough that the paintwork, the seat & the rear fender are embellished with that little poisonous creature, even the gearbox has a life size scorpion made from polished stainless steel mounted on it guarding the custom bike.
