Color Blind
Is it blue, grey or even green? It doesn’t really matter, because to be honest our customer is color blind.
Being color blind is not so bad, as long as he doesn’t work as a painter or in bomb disposal. ( Hey Howi, cut the blue.)
Ok, the color's one thing, but Howi knew exactly what he wanted done with the rest of the bike. He brought a relatively old Fat Boy® to our workshop in Soltau, to polish the old girl up & to have a fatter rear tire fitted. When he saw the result he was well pleased and that was it, but then he saw the Zero Cool® in our shop, and that really made him think. As always the talks about the work began with the premise; we could start with the indicators, then the exhaust & maybe a bit more power wouldn’t hurt in the Black Forest.
No half measures
After some more discussions over coffee & biscuits, Howi thought for a bit, then ordered some customization which deviated somewhat from his original ideas. The project’s main purpose was to build a bike with radical looks but maintaining decent ground clearance & fully functional for everyday use. So his old lady was stripped down and received not just improved looks but also a real power boost. We fitted a 113cui S&S engine, which gives the bike plenty of grunt for the Black Forest mountain passes. The crankshaft was balanced to ensure smooth running & a 102dbA Zero Cool® exhaust system with 60mm pipes fitted to make sure he can be heard, naturally TüV Approved. The gearbox was simply overhauled and sandblasted, which means it’s as good as new. Everything else came from digging deep into our well stocked stores to produce some fine parts which now grace the Color Blind. We started with our own production fenders, Zero Cool handlebars, a tank with integrated instruments and naturally Zero Cool® grips. The original idea was for a wider rear wheel, which of course we hadn’t forgotten. At the rear there’s now a 8 x 18” Zero Cool wheel with a 240 Metzeler in our swing arm with integrated indicators. At the front a 4 x 16” wheel in the same design is fitted, which has a 130 tire in contact with the road. To match the wheels, front & rear Zero Cool brake discs are fitted, which in combination with the Zero Cool 4 piston calipers, provide the necessary braking. This is rounded off by OMP forward controls as well as hiding much of the wiring inside the frame. The decision on the paint was pretty easy. It should be something that doesn’t make other people ill. But also really simple. The blue base coat by Harro looks great and then Danny from Airworxx Attack came into play. As you can see it turned out to be a really nice design, and Howi is as pleased with that as he is with the rest of his new “old girl.”
